Capricorn Citizen Advocacy

The Capricorn Citizen Advocacy program dates back to 1995 with a group of dedicated people working together to help people with disabilities from every imaginable angle. This group was called the Rockhampton Advocacy Development Focus Group.

In September 1998 “Advocacy Works” was created. The first public meeting was held in 1999 where the funding application was successful. In 2000 the first co-ordinator was employed for the newly named Capricorm Citizen Advocacy and shortly after an Administration Officer was also employed.

Citizen Advocacy opened its new office in George Street in 2000.

2001 saw the program change Co-ordinators while still making 8 matches.

Although having a new Co-ordinator the program hosted in its first CAPE (Citizen Advocacy Program Evaluation) in 2002 and then again in 2003 the program went through a change of Co-ordinator but still managed to meet the required target of matches.

In 2006 the program held its second CAPE.

A Disability Sector Quality System Accreditation Audit was started in February 2005 and registration was attained and certified on 6 February 2008, Certificate No DSW 0084.

Our program was very proud to celebrate in October 2009 its 10th Anniversary.
